Edward Smith Powell was the son of Zachariah and Bell Jane Aden Powell. Around 1841 he married Jane Ann Beideman of Merchantville, NJ. They farmed in Maryland for awhile then returned to farm the farm at Pyne Point which is now Pyne Point Park in Camden. The Pyne Point house was built in 1695 and originally owned by Joseph Cooper. William Cooper orignally bought the property in 1682 and called it Pyne Point because of the heavy growth of conifers on the property. The Cooper family were involved with operating ferries along the Delaware River including a slip nearby. The brick house later became the library. The house was restored in 1989 but vandals set it on fire on 2005. The ruins can still be seen.
