The family saw friends on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at Citty Funeral Home. Private graveside services were held on Monday, August 9, 2010, at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Elder David Underwood officiating.
A native of Rockingham County, he was a son of Samuel Thomas and Mildred Leake Childrey. He lived in Reidsville his entire life.
Wayne was a retired maintenance employee with the Rockingham County School System and worked for several years with Macfield of Reidsville. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors included his wife, Carol Underwood Childrey of the home. Parents, Sam and Mildred Leake Childrey of Reidsville. Brothers, Dwight Childrey and wife Janice of Reidsville and Mark Childrey and partner Terrell Bowers of Reidsville. Brother-In-Law, Robert Underwood and wife Brenda of New Market, Tennessee. Sister-In-Law, Cathy Underwood of Reidsville. Also several nieces and nephews.
The Citty Funeral Home of Reidsville assisted the Childrey family.
