Farmer, (Possible) Civil War Veteran.

David Chapman Ellsworth (Aaron5, Aaron4, Jeremiah3, Jeremiah2, Jeremiah1) was born February 13, 1816 in Exeter New Hampshire to Aaron Ellsworth and Ruth Chapman. He married Sarah (AKA Sally) Richmond of Ohio (Granddaughter Gladys says she was from Vermont, but according to census records, she was born in Ohio in 1844.)

David died April 9, 1895 of "congestion of the kidneys" and is Burial:Oak Grove Cemetery Hillsdale, Hillsdale County Michigan, Plot: Section 4, SW corner close to 111.

In 1850, the family lived in Lagrange, Lorain, Ohio, where I suspect Sarah was born. They stayed there for at least ten years, and by 1870 were living in Hillsdale County, MI.

David was a farmer, a clerk, and perhaps a Civil War Veteran. Organized at Camp Butler, Ill., and mustered in August 12, 1861 His regiment lost during service 8 Officers and 50 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 3 Officers and 173 Enlisted men by disease. Total 234. Mustered out November 22, 1865. Discharged at Springfield, Ill., January 3, 1866.

David died of blood poisoning after an operation for Brights Disease. (Bright's disease is a historical classification of kidney diseases that would be described in modern medicine as acute or chronic nephritis.) The term is no longer used, as diseases are now classified according to their more fully understood causes. It is typically denoted by the presence of serum albumin (blood plasma protein) in the urine, and frequently accompanied by edema and hypertension. This sounds remarkably similar to what David's great grandson Michael Baker Sr. had; then called "Minimal Change Disease")
