William H. Broadbeck, of Adams County, Struck by Chicago and Erie Express
Tender Picks up Wagon
Decatur, Ind., April 7 – William Henry Broadbeck, aged 72, farmer residing near Bobo, Adams County, died at the Adams County Memorial Hospital at 11 o'clock Sunday morning of injuries suffered when an east bound express train on the Chicago & Erie Railroad struck his light wagon at the Archbold Crossing, southeast of this city Saturday evening.
Upon approaching the track, Broadbeck stopped to allow a westbound freight to pass. Apparently he did not see or hear the express train, for he started his horse across the track. The locomotive struck the wagon and carried it with the driver down the track for a distance of 10 rods before the train could be stopped. The horse was not hurt.
Mr. Broadbeck suffered a fracture of the left collar bone, a broken leg and severe internal injuries.
The deceased was born near Cleveland, January 20, 1852. He had lived in Adams County, St. Mary's Township for 44 years. His wife and three sons survive.
Funeral services will be held at the Bobo Methodist Church at 1:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, with burial at Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
