Tech 5, U.S. Army, World War II-awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals for action as a combat infantryman in the Battle of the Bulge (Bastogne). BS (1948), JD (1952) and MSLS (1953), University of Wisconsin at Madison. Roy M. Mersky was Professor of Law and Director of the Tarlton Law Library and Jamail Center for Legal Research, University of Texas Law School in Austin, and occupied the Harry Reasoner Regents Chair in Law. Mersky worked at law libraries in Wisconsin and from 1954 to 1959 he was associated with Yale University. Formerly Executive Sceretary of the Judicial Council of the State of Washington from 1959 to 1963, and professor of law and law librarian at the University of Colorado at Boulder School of Law from 1963 to 1966. Professor Mersky published extensively on the role and function of law libraries, on legal research, on the Supreme Court, on justices of the Supreme Court, and other aspects of the law. Received the Marian Gould Gallagher Distinguished Service Award from The American Association of Law Libraries in 2005. Son of Isadore and Rose Mirsky-his surname was changed because of the error in spelling by a high school registrar.
Professor Mersky was an excellent teacher and mentor.
