Abraham Goldfaden, born Avrum Goldnfoden, was a Russian Jewish artist who excelled in poetry, playwriting, directing, and acting in Yiddish and Hebrew. He wrote around 40 plays and is considered the founder of contemporary Jewish theatre. In 1876, he established the first professional Yiddish theatre troupe in Romania, widely regarded as the world's first of its kind. Additionally, he was the creator of the first Hebrew-language play ever performed in the United States.
