Funeral for long-Time
Resident of City Will
Be Held Today

Last rites for James Phillip Smith, 82, will be held at 3 p.m. today from the East Fourth Baptist church with Rev. W. S. Garnett, pastor, and Rev. B. G. Richbourg in charge.
Smith succumbed at the family home, 1207 W. 5th street, 6:30 p.m. Saturday. He had lived in the county for more than three decades.
Born in Cherokee, Ga., Jan. 20, 1854, Smith early became a member of the Baptist church. In 1873 he was married to Miss Joan Gregory.
To that union 12 children were born, one dying in infancy and another, Luther, Howard county treasurer, succumbing in 1925.
Survivors are his widow and these children: Herschell Smith, Walter E. Smith, and Marshall Smith of Big Spring, Mrs. J. G. Arnett, Midland, Mrs. Oscar Smith, Lenorah, Mrs. Emmie Scott, Stanton, Mrs. Sam Coffey, Midland, Mrs. Haskell Coffey, Anson, Mrs. Ben Sample, Knott, and Gordon Smith, Bakersfield, Calif.
Burial will be in the Mt. Olive cemetery. Eberly Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
