Opal was born October 3, 1919 at home in Cherokee, County, the daughter of Arthur and Doris (Hackney) Swearingin. Opal attended Oswego High School and graduated in 1936. On December 1, 1937 she married Wayne Overman. She worked at the KAAP Ammunition, and the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center, from which she retired in 1974. She enjoyed painting with the Artex Embroidery paints and shared her talent with others by giving painting lessons. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and secretary of UMW. Pastimes included crocheting and spoiling her great-grandkids.
Survivors include her daughter, Sally Robison and her husband John; her daughter-in-law, Linda Overman; three granddaughters, Debra Shelton, Terri Lanier, and Cindy Robison; six great-grandchildren, Lutitia Holmes, Nichole Krenzer, Cody Brannin, Tyler Robison, Trent Robison, and Mayson Lanier; two great-great-grandchildren, Tyler Holmes and Savannah Holmes; one sister, Doris Mae Ekhoff; one brother, Bill Swearingin; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Opal was preceded in death by husband Wayne Overman in 1979; grandson Gary Robison in 1993; son John "Jack" Overman on 10/12/2010; parents Arthur and Doris Swearingin; sister Mary Gardner; and brothers Herb and David Swearingin.
Funeral Service will be at 1:30 p.m. October 18, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Oswego with Pastor Robert Conway officiating. Interment will follow in the Oswego Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church, 903 2nd St., Oswego. Services are under the direction of Murdock Funeral Home, Oswego.
