Both Austin Paccio and her unborn daughter later died at the Ashley County Medical Center. Paccio was in her eighth month of pregnancy at the time of the accident. Paccio's mother was driving the vehicle, traveling south on Highway 52 toward EZ Mart when she saw Johnson's vehicle traveling north past the EZ Mart and the car wash. She further stated that she believed Johnson "gunned it' because she saw black smoke coming from the tail pipe. She said as she approached Norcross Pawn, Johnson's vehicle crossed into her lane, and she slowed and turned in an attempt to avoid his vehicle, but his truck collided in the center of the passenger side of her vehicle. She said that Johnson's vehicle never slowed. Johnson is accused of two counts of capital murder, one count of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault.
