Larry Gail McKee 71, of rural Columbus passed away suddenly at his home, Monday, October 11, 2010.
Larry was born June 16, 1939 on the family farm where he also passed away.
Larry was the son of John William and Thelma Irene Burrows McKee.
He graduated from CCCHS in 1956, from Kansas State College of Pittsburg 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Pittsburg State University in 1979 with a Masters of Science Degree.
He married Carolyn Louise Frobish May 29, 1962 in the First Christian Church in Columbus.
Larry taught at Center School rural Columbus 1961-1962, Carl Junction Junior High School 1962-1963 and began teaching at Central School in Columbus in 1963 where he retired in 1993. He retired after 32 years of teaching service.
Larry farmed during his teaching career and continued after he retired. He loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, dancing, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the the NEA and the KNEA.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Carolyn of the home, a son Alan Gail McKee and wife Earlena of Tahlequah, OK; a daughter Carla Jo McKee and fiance Mark Howerton of rural Columbus, four granddaughters, Abby Jo Nelson, Erin Elizabeth Nelson, Pamela Dawn McKee and Alyssa Ann McKee and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Murdock Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Burrows officiating. Interment will follow in Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. Condolences may be left at www.murdockfuneralhomes.com. Memorials may be made to the Columbus Library READ Program with the Murdock Funeral Home 132 E.
