Affectionally known as Nannie, Linda Franks Abercrombie departed her wonderful life to be with the Lord February 19, 2009.

She was a woman of grace, courage and strength for her entire family.

Always putting family first, she claimed Isaiah 54:13 "All your sons and daughters will be taught by the Lord and great will be your children's peace."

She lived her life with a song in her heart and honored her Lord every day of her life by witnessing to her children about God's infinite love and plan for each of their lives.

Claiming God's strength, she exhibited a strong faith after the loss of her beloved husband, Marshall West Abercrombie because she was strong and courageous in all of her battles.

She never let the ways of the world dictate her life because she held on to the word of God in all of her affairs.

She was the daughter of Clyde T. and Sadie Fuller Franks.

She leaves behind her adoring children: a son, Marshall W. Abercrombie, Jr., and two daughters, Sadie Lee A. McGowan and Rosemary Abercrombie. Her other loves of her life include her grandchildren: Hap, Lewis, John, Jack, and Gracie Abercrombie and Joe and West McGowan. Yes, she made extra room in her heart for Ansley and Brooklyn Abercrombie, her precious great grandchildren. Her extra special friend and confidant, Ceola Crisp, to whom we are forever indebted will continue to always be a part of our family.

Linda was educated in Laurens City Schools. During her high school years she was a star basketball player coached by Frank Waldrop. This athletic prowess served her well later in life. She was a 1945 Furman graduate who majored in English and minored in music under the direction of Dupre Rhame. While at Furman she was elected May Queen. She made such lasting life friendships with so many of the "Furman girls."

Her wonderful talent from the Lord was her gift of song and she exhibited this greatly all the years of her life. Miss Flora McMillan not only was Linda's voice teacher, she was a special dear friend. Miss Flora had Linda singing every chance she could in church, music club, weddings, funerals etc. Miss Flora took Linda to the Juilliard School of Music and she was accepted. However, Linda chose over this prominent career to marry her beloved husband Marshall and to raise a family in Laurens because that was the most important career in her life- to be a housewife and a mother.

While enjoying a family winter outing to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, mama became quite bored sitting in the lodge around the fire. She hinted that daddy buy her a tennis racquet, as she had spied an indoor tennis court. There the marriage began- a woman and her racquet. Mama joined the YMCA. She played singles, doubles, and league tennis for many, many years. Would you believe until her 80th year?

Most recently mama's life centered around her beloved Martha Franks Singers. What a grand time she had each time they had a singing engagement. She enjoyed taking long walks down the familiar lanes of childhood and visiting with friends along the way.

Mama was always our biggest cheerleader in whatever we pursued and the confidence and courageousness that she taught us will never be forgotten. She loved a good hot dog, she loved people, and she loved being with her loved ones. Her life was simple and totally controlled by her love for the Lord.

We thank our Lord for taking her peacefully home. What a wonderful legacy she has left for us all.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 22, 2009, at First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Bev T. Kennedy, Jr. and Rev. Phil Hall.
