HAZEL A RULE : (5 Apr 1921--20 Apr 2010), a longtime resident of Bonita, died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday [4-20] in Berkeley CA, after suffering a heart attack & pneumonia. She was 89 years old. MrsRule was born in Fort Madison IA, to Vera Betts Potts & Walter Thomas PottsJr. She attended Starrett's School for Girls in Chicago & Drake University in Des Moines. She interrupted her studies during World War II to assist the war effort by working for a radio station in Philadelphia. In 1944 she married Lieutenant James H Rule, U.S. Navy, who entered the University of Chicago's School of Medicine after the war & went on to become one of the nation's most respected surgeons. Dr & Mrs Rule settled first in Chicago & then in San Diego, where they raised 3 daughters. MrsRule was actively involved in the San Diego Symphony, the San Diego Opera, the Old Globe Theatre & the Girl Scouts of America. She returned to higher education & graduated at the age of 71 with a bachelor's degree in Finance from San Diego State University. DrRule passed away in 1991. MrsRule relocated to Northern California in 2006 after, tragically, being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Semonche, of Durham NC, & daus: Rebecca Anne Cohen-Encinitas, Mary Elizabeth Dryden-Los Angeles & Ann Christine Rutter-Alameda as well as loving sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, step-grand-children & gr-grandchildren in the United States & Great Britain. There will be a memorial service at the Church of the Good Shepherd on Friday morning [11-5]. Donations to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America are gratefully welcomed
