Viola was the tenth child. She was born between
Elmer J. and Esther Veda. From eldest to youngest,

Brusie Funeral Home, 626 Broadway in Chico, Ca.,
were in charge of the arrangements.

M.O.T.H.E.R.
M is for the million things she gave me.
O means only that she's growing old.
T is for the tears she shed to save me.
H is for her heart of purest gold.
E is for her eyes and love-light shining.
R means right, and right she'll always be. Put
them all together, they spell "Mother."
A word that means the world to me.
(Grandma & Grandpa Mathern had this handmade Pillow always on their couch).

Moms song to you:
'My one and only love.'

Viola was first married to Earl Glen Long on
February 26, 1933 in South Gate,
California(Book 1133, Page 209).
The couple had 4 children, 3 son's and 1 daughter.
This marriage ended in September 1951 with a divorce
and later Earl remarried Cathy and His last Love that stood by Him for years & through death was Dorothy Burges.

Viola remarried
Orville Chestly (Dad) Mathern.

Orville was in the Army since the beginning of WWII. Viola was a waitress and her hometown friends were sending care~packages to our boys overseas. They asked grandma to help and that there were soldiers that didn't have family or weren't receiving anything from home from family, so grandma chose to help. Orville Chestly Mathern received her package for Christmas.

Orville and Viola were foster parents
At their home In Seaside, California
From 1967 to 1976. Grandma was certified!
for many children who needed a Very Loving
and Christian home. She sent her
Granddaughter, Kathleen Marie Freitas
Her Foster Certificates(1967-1976) when
They lived in Seaside, California.
Certificates might have read Pacific Grove?
Kathleen lost these and some Very Important
Photos through new job & move.
Kathleen still has these Foster Children Albums.

Viola was a great cook, fixing wonderful
meals for her large family. Orville and
Viola loved plants and working in their
flowers & peach tree. Their favorites were
Roses and also Violets. They loved growing
tomatoes.
They loved Cheyenne and
Poncho, their Mina birds. Kakie, Peppie,
Dottie, Wags, Honey and all their animals;
all part of the family.
Together forever! From Grandpa Mathern,
endearingly, the little old lady who lived
in the shoe, when they met and fell in love
for the rest of their days. Their love and
lives were like a fairy tale ending, there
is no end. They took their love with them
and as it continues to grow in Heaven, they
sprinkle their love dust down to us, their
family, ever so gently and softly.

Psalm 23
23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies; Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
