Mary Jane Cubbon, 94, formerly of Fisher Avenue, Oil City, a resident of Southwoods Assisted Living Community in Titusville, died at 2:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at Titusville Area Hospital.

Born May 28, 1916, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Maxwell C. and Mary Elizabeth Ravey Strickland.

Mrs. Cubbon was a graduate of Oil City High School and attended Venango Campus of Clarion University.

She and her husband owned and managed Cubbon Lumber Company for many years.

Mrs. Cubbon was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

She was a member and past matron of Morris Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Oil City Garden Club and Belles Lettres Club, a board member of the Venango County Literacy Association and a charter board member of the Venango County Visiting Nurses Association.

On Oct. 3, 1939, she was married to John W. Cubbon, who preceded her in death June 25, 1994.

Surviving are a son, John S. Cubbon and his wife, Darlene, of Oil City; three daughters, Carolyn Nielsen and her husband, Niels, of Cleveland, Ohio, Nancy Jean Cubbon of Oil City, and Rose Marie Cubbon of Fanwood, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Albert Redding, Susan DeFlich, John Cubbon, James Cubbon, Elizabeth Leeper, Robert Leeper and Kathleen Leeper; one step-grandson, Jim Vogan; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeffrey John Cubbon; two brothers, Joseph C Strickland and Maxwell L. Strickland; and one sister, Betty Anderson.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Phillips officiating.

Interment will be in Plumer Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Trinity United Methodist Church or the Oil City Library.
