EDWARDSBURG - Roger G. Ackels, 69, of Edwardsburg, MI, passed to his rest at 6:50 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010, while a patient at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. His illness was quite sudden. He was born December 21, 1940, in Owosso, MI, the son of the late R.G. and Isabel Mae (Stoll) Ackels. He served his country in the military form 1959 to 1962. He was married July 18, 1964 in Cadillac, MI, to Kathryn Soles Ackels and she passed January 19, 1999. He than married Deidre Campbell Brown on April 23, 2009 in Cassopolis and she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jerry W. (Cindy) Ackels of Tampa, FL and David L. Ackels of Germany and two grandchildren, Nicole Ackels and Liam Ackles. There are two brothers, Larry (Sandra) Ackels of Edwardsburg and Dennis (Michelle) Ackels of Warsaw, IN. One sister is deceased, Marilyn Mitchell who was living in Cadillac. Other members of the family are two step-children, Michelle Krupp of Edwardsburg and Terry Brown of Mishawaka; and five step-grandchildren. There will be a memorial services today (Saturday) at 6 p.m. September 18, 2010 in the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main St., Edwardsburg, where friends may call from 5 to 6 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Jeff Reese, pastor of Hope United Methodist Church, Edwardsburg. Cremation has taken place and there cremation inurnment will be at Edwardsburg Cemetery late this next week.
