Lyons, Feb. 8 --- Charles E. Merkel, 65, executive vice president of Farmers Bank of Kutztown, died last night in his home here. Merkel worked at his banking duties until three weeks ago when he was stricken ill. He was born in Maxatawny Township, a son of Mrs. Anna (Trexler) Merkel and the late Edwin Merkel. He was an Army veteran of World War I. He is survived by his mother; widow, Luma (Grim); two daughters, Anna and Barbara, both at home, and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family at his residence, the Rev. Francis Heine and the Rev. C. C. Harlacker officiating. Burial will be made in Maxatawny Church Cemetery.
