JONESVILLE — Mrs. Christena Elizabeth Baker, 70, a lifelong resident of this vicinity, died Wednesday afternoon [Apr. 9, 1958] at Hillsdale Community Health Center. She had been a patient for about 12 hours for a coronary condition.
She was born in Scipio Township July 12, 1887, a daughter of George and Jemima Hayndgen Shippy.
She was a member of the Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S., Jonesville Temple of Pythian Sisters and the Senior Fayette Home Demonstration group.
Her husband, C. Floyd Baker, whom she married Jan. 11, 1905, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Thelma) Marshall of Allen and Mrs. Gale (Marjorie) Trowbridge of Lansing, three sons, Glenwood F. Baker of Lansing, Herald C. Baker of Edon, Ohio and Lyle R. Baker of Jackson, two brothers, LeRoy Shippy of Hillsdale and Frank Shippy of Miami, Fla., nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. A sister and two grandchildren preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon [Apr. 12, 1958] at 2 at the Beebe Funeral Home. The Rev. John S. Myette of the Methodist Church will officiate and burial will be made in Sunset View Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 7 to 9.
Granddaughter Cara remembers what she was a great seamstress, who always made her costumes for her ballet and tap recitals. Also, she was diagnosed as lactose intolerant by her (doctor) grandson Richard Baker (Memorial ID 187537756). She also had allergies, possibly asthma.
