(Mom) Bettie was the youngest child born to Harry and Jean (Fettes) Drane. She was very close to her mother and siblings, especially her sister Phyllis and brother Harry. She never drove an automobile. She was afraid of heights. When she got a job, her first paychecks were saved up and she bought her mother a fur coat. Early family summers were spent in the Port Huron area of Michigan, where she loved to swim. Her life-long best friend was Ann (Jonas) McPhail. She had a brief first marriage to Otto Dyke.
