NEW ROCHELLE, N. Y., Sept. 12—Samuel H. Giangreco, director of physical education at Albert Leonard Junior High School and former city Superintendent of Recreation, died today in Mount Vernon Hospital. He was 63 years old and lived at 29 Lee Court in New Rochelle.

Mr. Giangreco graduated from Manhattan College, where he played on the football team. He was a referee in the National Football League and also officiated college football games.
Sam Giangreco was a lifelong New Rochelle resident who played sports for New Rochelle High School. He owned a liquor store and was an NFL referee for nineteen seasons. He officiated all sports and was a member of the Westchester County Football Officials Association from 1932 until his death. His best friend was Tony Veteri, who was also an NFL official. Sam Giangreco was inducted into the Westchester County Sports Hall of Fame. Surviving are his widow, Agnes, his mother, Mrs. Rosina Giangreco, five brothers, and a sister.
