John Lewis Akers, age 76 of Joshua Court, Lexington passed away Wednesday (September 8, 2010) at Forsyth Medical Center. Graveside Inurnment service will be 2:00 pm Saturday (September 11, 2010) at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, from Noon until 1:30 pm Saturday prior to the service.
John was born in Wise County, VA May 10, 1934 to James Akers and Stella Johnson Akers. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was retired from the US Navy having served 20 years and served in the Korean War and Vietnam. He was preceded in death by his wife Melita Patterson Akers on February 14, 1993.
Surviving are, three daughters, Anita McDaniel and husband Howard of Linwood, Ann Johnson and companion, Wendy Marier of Lexington and Sherry Bailey of Monroe; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one sister, Trula May Coker of Florida; four brothers, Roy Akers of Stanley, NC, Jimmy Akers of Atlanta, GA, Sterling Akers of Las Vegas, NV and Hubert Akers of Arkansas.
