Wes and his wife owned German shepherds. They lived in the 700 block of Prescott Ave. Wes had problems with his lower back stemming from a childhood injury while playing leapfrog, and he walked stiffly. Wes was the chief clerk at the Pennsylvania Coal Company's Dunmore office, and his wife taught piano. He had a beautiful singing voice, as did his brother and father.

When they lived on Pittston Ave, before moving to the Prescott Ave duplex that Genevieve's parents owned, Wes and his wife operated a small penny candy store out of their home.
Genevieve's father was a 50-year member of Lackawanna Lodge, Odd Fellows. He was German through and through, and would walk out of a discussion if someone said something derogatory about the Kaiser.
