Medina Co. Gazette - January 5, 1968, pg. 1: Robert Bowman is 8th Countian Killed In War. The war in Vietnam moved a little closer to Medina County yesterday, with the reported death of Sharon Towship soldier.
Killed in action on the Cambodian brder Tuesday was Sgt. Robert Eugene Bowman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bowman of Fixler Road.
In the Army since September of 1966, Sqt. Bowman had been in South vietnam for nine months. He was attached to the 25th Infantry Division.
A member of the 1965 Highland High School graduating class, Bowman was affectionetly known as "Dutchie" to his classmates. He played football and ran track, and was a member of the "Varsity H" club. He took partin the junior play.
After graduation, he took employment as a cable splicer for the Ohio Bell Company of Cleveland. It was his intention to attend college after return from his military service.
Bowman is the eight Medina County serviceman to die in South Vietnam.

A native of Akron, he was a resident of Wadsworth for 16 years and a 1965 graduate of Highland High School. He was a member of Wadsworth Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was formerly employed at the Ohio Bell Telephone Co., in Akron.
Sgt. Bowman enlisted in the U.S. Army in September, 1966, and had been overseas for nine months.
The deceased is survived by his parents, Walter and Bonita; sisters, Mrs. Sharon Urban and Mrs. Donna Hale of Akron and Miss Diane Bowman a home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Bryan of Akron and Glenn Goff of West Salem; and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. Goff of West Salem. Friends may call at the Hilliard Funeral Home in Wadsworth, where Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be sung Friday at9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Wadsworth, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
