Folk Figure. He was a well known British Coroner in London, England, during the reign of the infamous killer Jack the Ripper. He worked with the police during the Whitechapel murders (including Jack the Ripper). His other coroner related works included Joseph Merrick (Elephant Man) and executed German Spies during the beginning of the First World War. He passed away in Stoke Newington, England, on October 1, 1920, at the age of 76. Following his death, he was buried in Lewes Cemetery in Lewes, England. In the 1988 television mini-series "Jack the Ripper," he was played by Harry Andrews (his last film).
