Don L. Abbott dies Saturday

COLUMBUS JUNCTION --- Donald L. Abbott, 63, of rural Columbus Junction, died Saturday, June 6, 1987, at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City.

Services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Winfield with the Rev. James Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery, where graveside military rites will be held. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8 p.m. at McKasson-Honts Funeral Home in Winfield. A general memorial has been established.

Mr. Abbott was born in Nichols on Jan. 3, 1924, a son of Isaac and Flory (Marks) Abbott. He graduated from Conesville High School and married Ruth Gipple on Dec. 2, 1941, in the Gipple family home in rural Columbus Junction.

He was an army veteran of World War II and was a member of the Winfield American Legion and VFW Posts. He was a member of the Winfield Presbyterian Church and Good Faith Masonic Lodge No. 235.

He farmed in Louisa County and was on the Louisa County ASCS board. He was a Funks seed dealer for nearly 25 years and had worked for McKasson Funeral Home for 12 years and later Honts Funeral Home in Winfield for seven years.

Mr. Abbott was the co-founder of the Winfield Benefited Fire District and served as a trustee.

Survivors include his wife. three daughters, five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold of Glendale, Calif.; and Rex of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
