His mother was Nancy Jane Murrell. Married June 14, 1881, Sarah Elizabeth Thackrey.

"Samuel M. Harris, 85, died at 8:30 p.m. Saturday night at St. Mary's hospital after an illness of only four days. He was a retired dairyman who had made his home with his daughter, Miss Vida Harris...
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Burhew-Cowan funeral home with the Methodist pastor officiating. Mr. Harris was a member of the Methodist church. Interment will be at Sunset cemetery.
A member of the Grange, Mr. Harris was born in Wabaunsee county and had lived in Kansas all his life. He came to Manhattan in 1905.
Surviving him are six daughters: Mrs. W. H. Thompson, Marion, Kans.; Mrs. H. E. Totten, Clinton, Kans.; Miss Vida Harris of Manhattan; Mrs. R. H. Whitenach, Olathe; Mrs. M. E. Hartzler, Downer's Grove, Ill., and Mrs. B. Waterstradt, Detroit, Kans., and three sons, Frank C. Harris and Richard I. Harris. of Cleveland, and A. L. Harris of Wichita."
