A memorial service was held for C.A. Crawford, age 72, of Lubbock on Saturday, Sept. 14, 1996 at 3 p.m. at Broadway Manor, Lubbock. He died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1996 in St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer. According to his wishes, his body was donated to the Texas Tech University Health Science Center. C.A. Crawford was born April 20, 1924 in Mangum, Oklahoma to Silas and Susie Crawford.

Charles Andrew Crawford "C.A." graduated from Wellington (Texas) High School with the Class of 1941.

As a 1st Lieutenant in WW II, he served in England in the 8th Army Air Corps. as a Navigator. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Technological College in 1947 and his Master of Educational Administration degree at West Texas State University in 1963. He served as a high school science teacher for 18 years in Wellington and Amarillo and as elementary principal in both Wellington and Panhandle for 14 years. He retired in 1982.

Mr. Crawford was a member of Phi Delta Kappa honorary education fraternity. He was a former member of Kiwanis Club in Wellington and a member and former officer of Panhandle Lions Club and Southwest Lubbock Lions Club. He worked with adult literacy in Lubbock and served as a docent of the Museum of Texas Tech University. His keen interest in the history of WWII led him to share his war experiences with students as a lecturer. He was a private pilot. In April of 1996, he was inducted into the Wall of Honor at the Confederate Air Force Museum in Midland. An avid sports fan, he took pleasure in traveling around the area to watch promising high school and collegiate teams play football, basketball and baseball.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Charmane Crawford; three daughters, Judy Cudd of Wellington; Peggy Vaughn of Midland and Valli Fell of Bay City; a son, Dan Crawford of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Dennis Cudd II and Douglas Cudd of Austin, Anthony Crawford Vaughn of Midland and Chelsea Fell of Bay City; and a sister, Sue Raburn of Dumas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Susie Crawford of Wellington.
