ARVONIA, Jan. 31 - Helen LeSueur Ayres, of Arvonia, died Thursday, January 26, 2006.

She was the daughter of the late Lucy Mable and Charles Fontaine LeSueur and the wife of the late Edward B. Ayres and Robert Carey Hughes.

Mrs. Ayres was a graduate of Sullins College and received her Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University. She taught in Augusta and Buckingham Counties. She served on the LeSueur-Richmond Slate Corporation Board of Directors and was a member of Arvon Presbyterian Church where she was treasurer of the Women of the Church.

She is survived by three nieces, Linda L. Crummette and her husband, David of Keswick, Constance L. Pepper of Cumberland and Elizabeth F. LeSueur of Richmond; two greatnieces and three greatnephews.
