On 28 Jun 1848 Mary arrived in San Francisco, California aboard the clipper Architect and shorty afterward Mr. Joseph died and she then met and married Henry S. Morton 19 Dec 1850 in Stockton, California. He died 30 Jan 1855 leaving Mary a widow with three young children. She then took in laundry to support her children. In Stockton she met and married James B. Bryan 12 Sep 1857. In addition to the children listed with her she had a daughter Mary Josephine "Josie" Sep 1866-7 Jun 1905 who married Chauncy Morse and a son Samuel Joseph who died as an infant in New Orleans, Louisiana .
