Richard Eason was the second of seven children born to the union of James Wilson Eason and the former Ida Lee Felts. He was the oldest of four sons.

Following in his father's footsteps, Richard went to work for the Texas and Pacific (T&P) Railway Line. His father was an engineer on the line's steam locomotives. Richard was a conductor on the railway's freight line when, on Good Friday 1957, he lost his balance and fell beneath one of the cars of the slowly-moving train. He was able to get almost clear of the massive wheels but did lose a leg in the mishap.

After a lengthy recuperation, he returned to work as a passenger train conductor. He met many wonderful people in his work. He spoke of the times his passengers included the Duke and Duchess of Windsor - the former Edward VIII of the United Kingdom and his wife, the former Wallis Warfield Simpson - when they would travel by train to Houston, Texas for medical treatment. Life was never dull for Richard Eason.

On the last day in May of 1928, he was married to Miss Willie Elizabeth "Bill" Casey, the daughter of another T&P employee and a childhood friend of one of his sisters. Richard and "Bill" (born July 13, 1911 in Grand Saline, Texas to William James "Shug" Casey and his wife, the former Lula Elizabeth Bennett). They would have many happy years together, during which time they brought three fine sons into the world: Charles Richard (1930-1991); James Lee "Jimmy" (1934-2001); and William Robert "Bob (born 12 November 1943).

After a long, fruitful personal and professional life, Richard died in October 1971 at the age of 64 years. His wife, his beloved “Bill”, would survive him by 16 years, passing away on 14 January 1987 in Mineola. She was laid to rest exactly where she belonged, at her husband’s side.
