Son of Simon & Barbara Bichel, (pronounced like "pickle").

Per the 1900 Federal Census, William stated he was born in November of 1844 in 'Bohemia' (later divided into Austria & Czechoslovakia).

Married Theresia Landgraf about 1867 in Milwaukee, and together they had many children:

Andrew; Frederick (Hilda Knabel); Anna (Jay Purdy); Caroline (Joseph Van Beek); George J. & Theresa.

William was a shoemaker at first, but as factories replaced hand-made footwear, he became an iron worker and built bridges for a living. Per the Milwaukee City Directory, he was also a policeman for about a decade or so between 1880-1890.
