He was blessed with seven siblings; Linnie Fitzhugh, Broadus Lehmon Fitzhugh, Nannie Evelyn Fitzhugh Johnson, Gladys Welborn Fitzhugh Newman, Layton Carroll Fitzhugh, Mary Nell Fitzhugh Newman, and Hilda Louise Fitzhugh.
His Grandparents on his Father's side of the Family were; William Butler Fitzhugh and Susan Mahala King Fitzhugh, and his Grandparents on his Mother's side of the Family were; William Thomas Welborn and Hannah Caroline Marion Welborn.
His first marriage was to; Annie "Lucile" Corley Fitzhugh on April 26, 1919. They had two Children; Robert Edwin Fitzhugh, and Helen Lynn Fitzhugh Scott. He and Anna, divorced in the year of 1926.
His second marriage was to; Duera Lee Whitaker Middleton Fitzhugh and they married on Thursday, May 14, 1953. He and Duera were very happy together and they lived a long life together. Duera, out lived Duke by 22 years, and she passed away on Saturday, May 4, 1996. Duera, is buried next to her first husband, John Thomas Middleton at the Woodland Cemetery.
He was the proud Grandfather to; Patrick, Donald, and Linda.

His Funeral service was held on Friday, April 5, 1974, he was laid to rest at the Carter's Creek Cemetery in Greenville, Kentucky.
