After coming to America with her family in 1856 and settling first in rural Wisconsin, later in Milwaukee, she married fellow Darmstadter, John Franz Bornheimer, who served his adopted country in the Civil War.

Friends and neighbors, the sad news that our much-beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and mother-in-law, Caroline Bornheimer, on Wednesday, the 29th of November, at 7:00 in the morning, at the age of 61 years, 5 months, and 15 days, after a short illness, is resting in peace.
The funeral will take place on Saturday, the 2nd of December at 8:45 in the morning from the mourning home, no 619 East Water Street, then to St. Mary's Church and from there to Calvary Cemetery. John F. Bornheimer, husband; J. Ernst, Caroline, Andrew, Henry F., Gertrud and Friedrich, children; also daughters and sons-in-law, grandchildren, and others.
