Page 135 - "Died - Jesse M. Smith was born Nov. 5, 1818, in Lawrence County, Miss., was married to Elizabeth Furr on Dec. 2, 1840...united with Little Bahala Church about the year 1843...died Nov. 21, 1892. Uncle Jesse will be sadly missed..."

LAND: His father; Captain Billy Smith moved from the Fair River area to what was then known as the Bogue Chitto Settlement, now known as Brookhaven, sometime before 1820, and settled on the west fork of the Bogue Chitto River. He was granted land by the US Government in 1830, and 1836, these lands lying in Section 10, Township 7N, and Range 7E. His lands, when located on present day map of Lincoln County, would be situated just south of Miss. Hwy 550, at a point where it intersects with the California Oil Road. This is about two or three miles west of Brookhaven where the '550 Opry House' now stands.

'Captain Billy Smith' resided there until his death, August 3, 1847. And was buried in the Old Saron Cemetery (often referred to as 'Old Allgood Cemetery' and 'Goodman Cemetery'. Delilah, his wife was laid to rest beside him at a date sometime later. The place where they lived was a community (often referred to as Goodman or Saron, consisting of a trading post, cotton gin, lumber and grist mill, store and church. His property in Section 10, Township 7N, and Range 7E, was deeded to his son-in-law, James Cagle in 1851. By 1858, James Cagle owned three fourths of Section Ten, Township 7N, and Range 7E. The other one-fourth belonged to Jesse M. Smith, a son of 'Captain Billy Smitn.' Jesse M. Smith received this property in 1858, being part of a tract originally deeded by the US Government in 1836 to an unidentified Arthur Smith... From 'Descendants of 'Captain Billy Smith' by Gregory S. LAND: PROBATE: Summons dated 24th Feb 1851 in then Lawrence County, MS. The following were given notice to appear at the April term of the Probate Court for administrations of William Smith, deceased: Perry Smith, Sarah Lofton, Matilda Furr, Mariah Cagle, Nancy Lofton, Malissa Tarver, Cynthia L Chandler, Jesse Smith, and Elizabeth J. Smith; who are nine of his ten children. only Pleasant Smith was not summoned.
