∼Mrs. Barton passed away at 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born on December 5, 1923 in Hinton, Okla. to Rea and Vernie Scott. She was raised on a farm near Littlefield. Readean graduated from Amherst High School in 1941 and from Draughon Business School in 1943. She married M.R. Barton on February 7, 1947 in Lubbock. Readean worked for the Lubbock City School Tax Office for 16 years. She was a Girl Scouts leader for 5 years and was active in the community Bible Study (CVS) in Lubbock for 19 years. She was First Lady of the Land Improvement Contractors Association from 1972-73. Readean was also Past President and still active in the Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed sewing and sewed lap blankets for nursing home residents and Women's Protective Services. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 18, 2002. She was a member of the South Plains Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas.
She is survived by her daughters, Dee and husband Don Hollis of Houston, Jan and husband Glenn Pettiet of Haughton, La.; sister, Vera Mae Timian of Midland; grandchildren; Cherri and husband Spencer Shaw of Dallas, Amber and husband Brandon Rogers of Keller, Texas, Jason and wife Jenna Pettiet of Shreveport, La., and Stacie and husband Mickey White of McKinney, Texas; and four great-grandchildren with the fifth due in early September.
