James Moore Sr. Was born about 1862, in Canada, probably Calgary. About 1877, upon graduating from the 8th grade at the age of 16, James went to work for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Around 1880, James became the Mainline Engineer on the Fresno to Bakersfield run. About 1910 the family moved to San Francisco, where James Junior went to St. Ignatius High School. From 1910 until his death in 1924, James Sr. was the Senior Locomotive Engineer for Southern Pacific Railroad. James also served as the president of the Railroad Engineer's Union in the 1890's, in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. In 1924 James S. Moore Sr. died, and was buried in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, California with his wife Jane Ann (Ryan) Moore who preceded him in death.
