Eugene enlisted in the U.S. Army from Pike County, MS, on 29 September 1939. As a sergeant assigned to the USAAF 27th Bombardment Group (Light), 48th Material Squadron, he was captured by the Japanese Army during WW II. It is believed that after surviving the Bataan Death March, he was imprisoned in the O'Donnell POW Camp where he died on 2 July 1942. Camp O'Donnell is located at Capas, Tarlac, Philippines, north of Clark Field.
