Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 16, 1946.

Son of Mrs. Isabel G. Anthony who resided in Yonkers, New York.

Richard served as a Sergeant & Gunner on B-24D #42-72823, 371st Bomber Squadron, 307th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Westchester County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on October 21, 1942 in New York City, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of miscellaneous products and also as Single, with dependents.

B-24D #42-72823 took off from Koli Field (APO #709), Guadalcanal Province, Solomon Islands on a bombing mission over Rabaul, New Britain Island, Papua New Guinea. During the mission they were attacked and shot down by multiple Japanese fighter planes and were seen to crash into the sea. The entire crew was lost in this crash however some parachutes were seen leaving and two are assumed to be Sgt. Johnston & Sgt. Falter since both of their remains were recovered.

Richard was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
