Pilot of the P-47 Thunderbolt 43-25319, 78th Fighter Group took off from station 357 in Duxford, Cambridgeshire, UK on a bombing mission over Rennes. Separated by clouds, the formations regrouped after crossing the Channel, but Massa was not among them. He was shot down by German fighters at 1430. It was his 44th mission.
