Herchel L. Elliott was the son of Murry Elliott. He grew up in Granbury, Texas, attending public schools there and was a graduate of Buckner Orphans Home in Dallas.
He served with the 47th Infantry Regiment, 9th Infantry Division in France. He was killed in action during the Battle of Hedgerows and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Sgt. Elliott was survived by his father, a sister, Edna Mae; and three brothers, M.R., Tommy and Hildred.
