He embarked on the ship HMAT Port Melbourne A16 out of Melbourne on Jul. 16, 1917 as a Private in the 58 Infantry Battalion - 6 to 9 Reinforcements. He is honoured on the Roll of Honour at panel 165 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra, Australia. His brothers William, Lionel and Keith also enlisted for WW1 and returned alive. His younger brother Thomas enlisted for WW2 and was killed in action.

Brighton Southern Cross, Aug. 24, 1918
BODSWORTH.—Killed 9-8-18, somewhere in France, Victor Charles, the loving husband of Dolly and little Nell; also loving stepfather of Alick, Joe and Wallie Richards, of Gibson's road, Sandringham. Aged 29 years. 13 months on active service. There came a shock and awful pain, And this world will never be the same, To have to love, then to part, Is the saddest sting to human heart.
BODSWORTH.—In loving memory of my dear brother, Pte. Victor Bodsworth, who was killed in action on the 9th August. Far away in the field of battle, Rained by shot and shell, Ever ready to the call of duty, Poor dear Victor fell. A gallant hero, true and brave, Now peacefully sleeps in a soldier's grave; Great was the blow but God knew best, When he took dear Victor to His Home of rest. —Inserted by his sorrowing sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Alfred Holness.
