Judge William Wick Harrell was known more commonly as JW Harrell. He was not a judge, but named after Judge William Wick, a judge who presided over a famous trial in Pendleton, Indiana concerning Indian rights. His parents were Byrum and Sally Hubble Harrell.

J.W. was a Shelby County farmer near Fairland. He was a Democrat, a county commissioner for six years of Shelby County, and he also served on the Board of Education in Greenfield, Indiana.

His first wife was Lodema Ann Drake and his second wife was Josephine E. J. Day. These two wives are buried in Brandywine Cemetery, where they share a monument. He lived in Greenfield or Greenpiece with his third wife, Lettie or Lottie May Jenkins.

The children of J. W. and Lodema were Sarah Elizabeth, William, Eliza, Jennie Permelia, George B., Madison Harvey, Samuel, Ira Thomas and Charles W. Harrell.

The children by Lettie Mae were Lulu Bernice, wife of Ellis Beeson, Raleigh Esta, and an infant who died young.
