Joseph served as a Staff Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner on B-17 "Oklahoma Okie" #42-29921, 324th Bomber Squadron, 91st Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Baltimore, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on October 7, 1942 at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the building of aircraft and also as Married.

B-17 #42-29921 took off, with a crew of 10, from station 121 England on a bombing mission over Bordeaux, France. They were attacked by German Aircraft and shot down. They crashed near Lesperon, 15 miles North of Dax, near Bordeaux, France. "5" of the crew were killed in action in this crash and "5" became POW's of the German Army.

Joseph was "Killed In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
