Reeves Kenneth Gauthier was born in Montreal, Iron County, Wisconsin, the son of Napoleon Ebel Gauthier and Olive M Reeves. His family later lived in Cleveland, Ohio. He had married Mildred Maxine Bailey in 1941.

On November 7, 1944, he was on the crew of the Douglas C-47B Skytrain #43-48449 when they crashed into Mont Tournette in the French Alps during a flight from Grove, England to Istres, France. The weather was poor at the time of the accident. All four occupants were killed.
