Sergeant Zobel was a Radio Operator aboard B-26B Marauder #42-95873. He was killed in service when the twin-engine bomber, taking off in poor visibility weather from Airfield A-73, Roye/Amy, Picardie, France, collided with a combine in a field and then into high tension wires and crashed, 2 miles to the northeast. Visibility was less than 1,000 yards. Three crewmembers were killed and three reportedly survived with injuries.

1st Lt. Vern E Salden, O-757294, MI, Co-Pilot
