Flying a P-47D he took off from Beaulieu to provide withdrawal support for 8th Air Force bombers from Southern Germany. He was last seen around 1715hrs, north of Amiens, France after strafing a HE111. German report J-890 confirms that his P-47 was shot down by flak and crashed at Chemin aux Carrottes, south-east boundary of Arras in north-west France at 1704hrs.
