Took off from Thurleigh, assigned target Romilly-sur-Seine. Hit by 20mm cannon fire shortly after leaving the target. Aircraft slowly left the formation and went into a flat spin, rolled over and crashed in the vicinity of Nangis, France 7 KIA, 2 POW, 1 evaded.

Two of his crewmates SSgt Arnold Pearson and Sgt Stephen Ross are also buried in the Epinal American Cemetery.
