Sergeant Arthur H “Harold” Labelle, born in 1918, was the son of Arthur Harold Labelle and Blanche (Dessault) LaBelle of Manchester, New Hampshire.
In the 1925 Manchester city directory 7-year-old Harold is living with his parents at 137 Knowlton. His father is a shoe worker.In the 1938 Manchester city directory, 20-year-old Harold is living with his mother, Blanche, at 643 Harvard. Harold is a “shoe worker”.In the 1940 census 22-year-old Harold is living with his mother as head of household and cousin Laurette Marin 30, at 642 Hall Street in Manchester. His mother is a saleswoman in a retail department store. Harold is a “bottom cementer” in a shoe repair shop. Cousin Laurette also works in a shoe repair shop. Harold’s father is a resident at the New Hampshire State Hospital at Concord.Harold enlisted 24 Feb 1941 in Manchester. He’d had four years of high school and was single without dependents. His civil occupation was manufacture of boots and shoes.Harold married Pauline Rita Lebel in Manchester, NH, on Christmas Day 1943.The 941st Field Artillery Battalion landed in Normandy on D+8, 14 June 1944.The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county for New Hampshire list La Belle, Harold A, Sgt from Hillsborough County, as DNB (Died Non-Battle) so he died in the line of duty from some illness or accident on 28 Jul 1945 some 81 days after the end of hostilities on VE Day 8 May 1945.
