Courtney Ellis Abney son of G. M. and E. R. Abney was born in Birdsville, Kentucy, May 13, 1892, died at East Chicago, Indiana January 29, 1920, aged 27 years 8 months and 16 days.
Early in life he gave his heart to God. On June 2, 1915 he was united in marriage to Pearl French, who with two children, Mary Virginia age 4 and Margaret Ellen age 2, survive him.
He leaves a mother, two sisters, Mrs. Herbert Thacker and and Mrs. Lavader Johnson of Vienna, Illinois. Four brothers, William Abney of Springfield, Ohio, Frank of Colorado; Springs, Colorado, Ottawa of Gillespia, Illinois and Oscar of Iuka, Illinois, and other relatives and friends to mourn his demise. He was a devoted husband, a loving father. The last days of his life were ones of suffering and pain, but he often spoke of how, happy they would be when in their home at Iuka once more. There is a vacant place in the home which never can be filled, his voice on earth is has died, and we say that he is dead, but blessed are the dead that died in the Lord. Funeral services were held in Iuka Tuesday February 3rd at 1:30 o'clock pm, conducted by Rv. Mr. Hamersin. Interment in Iuka cemetery.
