Staff Sergeant Charles W Wolfe, Kentucky, Service Number 15112613, was a non-commissioned officer (NCO) with the 327th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. The 327th, which is a glider-borne regiment, landed in Normandy by glider as well as by ship due to a glider shortage.


After leading his squad through the breakout of Normandy, he was critically wounded in combat in September, 1944, during Operation Market Garden. He was evacuated to England where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He died on 18 Sep 1944.
