Private First Class George E Shirk, California, Service Number 39533289, served with the 401st Glider Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. He was wounded on January 7, 1945, in Belgium, during the Battle of the Bulge. At the time, the 401st was insuring the defense of the Southern area of Bastogne. Shirk died on 23 Jan 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
